Blogging at a Small Academic Library

Weblog / English Blog / Observations

Observations

Advertising the blog (specfically, the “Resources for English 111 Classes” page) on the front page of the web site showed an increase in hits to the blog, but no comments. In the past communication was fed to the department with interaction occurring only if there were specific needs–purchasing library materials, scheduling a bibliographic session, or questions about the collection.
The information about literary events can be found in other places: campus events (and some events sponsored by literary associations) are posted in the campus-wide calendar, and are advertised through flyers and email messages to the department and campus. With the creation of the blog, information about library services is available in a new format.
The blog creator/liaison wonders what will elicit responses from the English Department. If the blog is being created to show the connection between literary world, academic library, and department, what does it mean when there are hits, but no feedback?
