Blogging at a Small Academic Library

Weblog / English Blog / End-User Feedback

End-User Feedback

Here are some examples of spreading the word about the blog and feedback received:
First email: sent in February, a few days before the comprehensive exams.
subject line: After the comps . . .
message: check out Library Bytes a blog I’ve created to post information about literary events and library services: http://uaflibrary.us/blogs/english/.
Some examples of resources you’ll find on the blog:
1. A ‘Resources for English 111 Classes’ page that includes most of the information covered during the library presentation I give each semester. Feel free to point your students to the blog as they begin their research papers.
2. Literary events occurring in town, on campus, in the state.
3. Links to useful websites.
4. Information about Rasmuson Library.
5. My contact information: feel free to contact me if you want to schedule a library presentation.
Feel free to comment on the blog (is it useful?), or send me information that you’d like to see posted.
Comments: Two responses specifically mentioned the blog (one responder committed to using the page in class, as part of the research process), but most of the received email responses were requests for library presentations.
Second email sent March 21:
subject line: Library presentations
message: Don’t forget to request library presentations for your classes. I’m receiving several requests for 111 and 213 classes–keep the requests coming! These presentations are about 20-30 minutes and cover the research process, specifically services and material available through the Library.
And, don’t forget to pass on the Library Bytes blog: http://uaflibrary.us/blogs/english/. The page “Resources for English 111 Classes” is the same material I cover during the presentations.
Comments: The day after this message was sent, I received several messages from faculty and teaching assistants requesting to schedule library presentations. Nothing was said about the blog.
Other publicity options: I posted information about the library presentations and provided a link to Library Bytes on the Reference blog.
Comments: One reference librarian has reported that she did show the resource page to an English 111 student and got a positive response.
